Government urged to ensure solar capacity expansion is ‘not tainted with the Uyghur genocide’
During questions to the COP26 president Alok Sharma, Labour’s Afzal Khan raised his concerns of “45% of the world’s supply of key components used in solar panel, polysilicon” is produced where Uyghur forced labour takes place in China.
Khan warned that the government’s expansion of solar power could be “tainted with the Uyghur genocide”.
The COP26 president reassured the House that there are “robust measures” in place to ensure that no UK organisations are complicit in this forced labour.
