Ipswich tower cladding replacement has created living conditions unfit for ‘animals, never mind humans’
MP for Ipswich Tom Hunt opened the Westminster Hall debate on cladding remediation on high rise buildings with a speech in which he revealed that people were living in conditions unfit for “animals, never mind humans”.
Hunt cited his Ipswich constituents who live in the high rise St Francis Tower, which needed its cladding replaced. This involved “a giant shrink wrap” covering the building, creating conditions that locals “couldn’t believe that any human beings would be expected to live”.
While the Conservative MP for Ipswich told MPs that he “appreciated building safety”, he called for the government to find a “balance” that factored in “the mental health of those that are expected to live in these buildings”.
