James Doly on ‘addressing failings’ with pet microchips
In a ten minute rule bill, Conservative MP James Doly told the House how his bill would “address the failings” that have affected “many much-loved pets”.
The bill will make it a “legal requirement to scan for microchips before euthanising pets” as well as the need to local authorities to “make all reasonable efforts” to reunite a deceased pet with their owner.
Having concluded without the House realising, there was an amusing moment where he needed to tell the House that he had finished. This draw a compliment from the Deputy Speaker, for “certainly holding the attention of the House”.
