Theresa May: This battle with Russia is ‘a defence of democracy itself’
Former prime minister Theresa May shared her concerns that the bigger picture of the Russian invasion of Ukraine is a “worldwide trend of authoritarian states trying to impose their way of thinking, and that the battle in which we must now engage is nothing more or less than the defence of democracy itself”.
May “welcomed” Boris Johnson’s announcement which detailed sanctions on Russia, highlighting that today was “rightly about protecting Ukrainian independence”.
The prime minister agreed with May, saying that “the echoes will be heard in Taiwan, in East Asia and around the world”.
