Brandon Lewis has been the Conservative MP for Great Yarmouth since 2010 and was reelected in 2019 with a majority of 17,663.
The constituency of Great Yarmouth is a thin constituency that covers a stretch of the south Norfolk coast. Great Yarmouth is the largest town in the constituency and there is far more industry in this seat that might be expected for what is otherwise rural Norfolk. It also serves as a hub for the offshore oil and gas industry. Although this area leans to the Conservative Party, it is not outside of Labour’s reach in the party’s better years and this area was represented by Labour between 1997 and 2010, and between 1966 and 1970. A high 71.5% of the electorate backed Brexit in the 2016 EU referendum.
Brandon Lewis has been Secretary of State for Northern Ireland since 2020. He previously sat in the Cabinet as Chairman of the Conservative Party under Theresa May between 2018 and 2019.
Lewis was formerly a junior minister as Minister of State for Housing and Planning from 2014 to 2016, Minister of State for Immigration from 2017 to 2018, and briefly Minister for Security between 2019 and 2020.
Born in 1981, Brandon Lewis studied economics at the University of Buckingham before completing a LLM in Commercial Law at King’s College London. He worked as a barrister before being elected to Parliament.
Lewis served on Brentwood Borough Council between 1998 and 2009. He was leader of the Council between 2004 and 2009..
He supported Remain in the 2016 EU referendum.
Brandon is married with two children. He took up triathlon in 2011. During the 2020 Covid Lockdown. Lewis completed a Castle Series virtual half ironman event.
