Chris Elmore is the Labour MP for Ogmore, having first been elected to Parliament in a by-election in 2016. He was reelected in the 2019 General Election with a majority of 7,805.
The constituency of Ogmore is located in South Wales in Mid Glamorgan and covers the towns of Maesteg and Pencoed. Close to the River Ogmore, this seat is more rural than some in South Wales, and actually excludes the small coastal village of Ogmore by Sea itself. One of the safer Labour seats in the UK, Ogmore has been won by the Labour Party in every General Election since the First World War. The 2019 election was the first time in nearly a hundred years that the party’s majority had dropped below 10,000.
Chris Elmore was appointed as a Shadow Culture Minister in December 2021. He also serves as an Opposition Whip.
Born in 1983, Elmore completed a degree in History and Culture from Cardiff Metropolitan University. He previously worked as a trainee butcher and in further education before being elected to Parliament.
Elmore served as a councillor on the Vale of Glamorgan council between 2008 and 2018.
Chris Elmore is Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Rail in Wales; and Social Media. He is Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Coalfield Communities; Internet, Communications and Technology; Pensions; Trade and Export Promotion; Wales in the World; Spain; Japan; Small Island Developing States; and Rwanda.
Elmore is married with one child.
