John Finucane is the Sinn Fein MP for Belfast North, having first been elected to Parliament in 2019, with a majority of 1,943 over the Democratic Unionist Party’s then leader at Westminster, Nigel Dodds.
Prior to 2019, the Belfast North constituency had always been held by Unionist MPs, but the demographics of the area have been changing in recent years.
Born in 1980, John Finucane served as the 64th mayor of Belfast in 2019 and also worked as a lawyer before being elected to Parliament.
He is the son of the lawyer, Pat Finucane who was murdered at home by loyalist paramilitaries in 1989.
Finucane had previously been elected to Belfast City Council and was elected as Lord Mayor of Belfast in 2019.
