Stephen Flynn is the Scottish National Party MP for Aberdeen South, having first been elected to Parliament in 2019, gaining the seat off the Conservatives with a majority of 3,982.
The Aberdeen South constituency covers the southern suburbs of the City of Aberdeen and some rural areas to the south. Supported by the oil industry, Aberdeen South is one of the most affluent seats in Scotland, and more so than the neighbouring Aberdeen North constituency. The Conservative Party held the seat between 2017 and 2019, and during the period of the Thatcher and Major governments in the 1980s and 1990s.
Born in 1988, Stephen Flynn was educated at Dundee University. He previously worked as a political researcher for SNP MSPs at Holyrood and SNP MPs at Westminster, before being elected to Parliament.
Flynn was elected to Aberdeen City Council in 2015 and became the SNP Group Leader on the Council in 2016.
Flynn is married with a young child. He is a member of the All Party Parliamentary Group on State Pension Inequality for Women.
