Ford, Vicky

Vicky Ford is‌ ‌the Conservative ‌MP‌ ‌for‌ Chelmsford, ‌having‌ ‌first‌ ‌been‌ ‌elected‌ ‌to‌ ‌Parliament‌ ‌in‌ 2017.  She was re-elected with a‌ ‌majority‌ ‌of‌ 17,621 in 2019.

The constituency of Chelmsford is found in the centre of Essex, and is a relatively compact seat based around the city of Chelmsford itself and the village of Great Baddow.  This is a relatively affluent part of England with a high commuter population travelling to work in London.  It has supported the Conservative Party consistently since 1950.

Vicky Ford was appointed as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Foreign Office in September 2021.  She was previously Under Secretary of State for Children and Families between 2020 and 2021.

Born‌ ‌in 1967, Ford grew up in Northern Ireland and studied Maths and Economics at Cambridge University‌.

Ford then ‌worked‌ for JPMorgan Chase from 1989 to 2001 where she was promoted to Vice-President in the company’s loan syndication department.  She later worked for the bank, Bear Stearns as managing director for loan capital markets.

Prior to her election as an MP, Vicky Ford was a Member of the European parliament for the East of England between 2009 and 2017.   During her time as an MEP, Ford chaired the Internal Market and Consumer Affairs Committee (IMCO), one of the most powerful economic committees in the European Parliament

She was also a Councillor on South Cambridgeshire District Council between 2006 and 2009.

Ford was a founder member of the Conservative Environment Network and has campaigned for a reduction in plastic use.

She supported Jeremy Hunt in the 2019 Conservative Party leadership election.  She supported Remain in the 2016 EU referendum and is seen as being on the left of the Conservative Party.

Ford is married to Hugo, a cancer specialist, and the couple have three children .

Ford like cricket and serves on the Committee for Essex Cricket.   She also enjoys singing and fly fishing.
