Gideon, Jo

Jo Gideon is‌ ‌the Conservative‌ MP‌ ‌for‌ Stoke-on-Trent Central‌,‌ ‌having‌ ‌first‌ ‌been‌ ‌elected‌ ‌to‌ ‌Parliament‌ ‌in‌ 2019, gaining the seat‌ off the Labour Party ‌with‌ ‌a‌ ‌majority‌ ‌of 670.

Prior to 2019, Stoke on Trent Central had been held by the Labour Party ever since the Second World War.  Generally considered to be the least affluent of the three Stoke on Trent seats, it also contains Staffordshire University.   Just under two thirds of the electorate (64.8%) supported Brexit in the 2016 EU referendum.

Born in 1952, Jo Gideon was educated at the Birmingham University.   Gideon previously ran her own business focusing on small business and project management, The Knowledge Hive Ltd.

Gideon has three adult children, one of whom is Dr Who actress and comedian, Ingrid Oliver.

Gideon previously sat as a Conservative councillor on Thanet Borough Council in Kent between 2003 and 2015, and then on Ashford Borough Council.  She had previously stood for Parliament unsuccessfully in Grimsby and in Scunthorpe.

Gideon is a member of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Business in a Pandemic (Covid) World, Knife Crime, Charities and Volunteering, Waterways, and Women in Enterprise.

She is Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on the National Food Strategy.
