Iain Stewart first re-elected as Conservative MP for Milton Keynes South in 2010, being reelected in 2019 with a majority of 6,944.
Milton Keynes South is the more compact of the two Milton Keynes seats. It is the more urban of the two constituencies and includes the areas of Netherfield, Kents Hill, Caldecotte, Wavendon, as well as Bletchley. Like the other Milton Keynes seat, this is a marginal constituency, which is likely to be won by whichever party forms the government of the day.
Iain Stewart has been Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Scotland since 2020.
Born in 1972, Stewart grew up in Hamilton in central Scotland and went to Hutchesons’ Grammar School in Glasgow. He graduated from Exeter University with an honours degree in politics. He then moved to Milton Keynes back in 1993.
Stewart was originally a trainee accountant with Coopers & Lybrand in Central Milton Keynes, before moving to become head of research for the Scottish Conservative Party. He then worked for the Executive Search firm, Odgers, Ray & Berndtson, before being first elected to Westminster.
He has run the London Marathon and the Milton Keynes half-marathon, supporting Macmillan Cancer Relief, MK SNAP and Sportsaid.
Stewart is openly gay and has spoken about his experiences of homophobic bulling at school. He was shortlisted for Stonewall’s Politician of the Year Award back in 2012.
He has a political interest in driverless cars.
