Imran Hussain was first elected as the Labour MP for Bradford East in 2015, being reelected in 2019 with a majority of 18,144.  B

Bradford East is one of the most densely populated seats in England, with two fifths of the electorate being of Asian descent.  Largely the successor of the old Bradford North seat, Bradford East contains the areas of Bowling, Bradford Moor, Eccleshill, Ide and Thackley and Little Horton.  This is a safe Labour seat.

Imran Hussain was appointed as the Shadow Minister for Employment Rights in 2020 under Keir Starmer.  He served as the Shadow Minister for International Development between 2016 and 2017 under Jeremy Corbyn.

Born in 1978 in Bradford, Hussain worked as a barrister before being elected to Parliament.

Hussain served on Bradford City Council between 2002 and 2018, and was Deputy Leader of the Council between 2010 and 2015.

In 2015, he nominated Jeremy Corbyn for the Labour leadership, and supported him again in the 2016 content.   He backed Rebecca Long Bailey in the 2020 leadership content.   Hussain is firmly positioned on the left of the Labour Party.  Upon his election to Parliament in 2015 he called for the Labour Party not to draw back to the ‘New Labour’ creed of the past.

At Westminster he is Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Boxing, Hajj and Umrah, Pakistan, and the Rights of the Rohingya.

In 2015 he reportedly rejected a donation by Tony Blair to his election campaign, citing his own past opposition to the Iraq War.
