Navendu Mishra is the Labour MP for Stockport, having first been elected to Parliament in 2019 with a majority of 10,039.
The constituency of Stockport is located within Greater Manchester, just to the south of the City itself. Although held by the Conservatives in the 1980s, Stockport has been a safe Labour seat since 1992.
At Westminster, Mishra was the Parliamentary Private Secretary to Angela Rayner, Labour’s Deputy Leader, but resigned in 2020 because he could not support the Party in its stance on the Covert Human Intelligence Sources Bill.
Born in 1989, Mishra was educated at Hull University. He worked as a trade unionist for Unison covering the care sector, before being elected to Parliament.
Mishra is a hindu by religion.
Mishra was a member of the Labour Party’s National Executive Committee between 2018 and his election to Parliament in December 2019.
Mishra sits on the left of the Labour Party and is a member of the Socialist Campaign Group of Labour MPs. He supported Jeremy Corbyn in his 2015 and 2016 leadership elections, and Rebecca Long-Bailey in the 2020 Labour leadership content. He strongly supports the renationalisation of the water industry, the railways, and the postal service.
Navendu Mishra is the Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Zimbabwe, and a member of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on the Western Sahara, Tibet, Indo-British, Nepal, Cuba, Cricket, Greater Manchester, and Woods and Trees.
