Latham, Pauline

Pauline Latham was first elected as the Conservative MP for Mid Derbyshire in 2010, being reelected in 2019 with a majority of 15,385.

The constituency of Mid Derbyshire is a relatively compact seat immediately to the north and west of the City of Derby and contains the communities of Belper, Borrowash, West Hallam, Allestree, Oakwood, and Spondon.   Home ownership in this part of England is above the national average.  This is a new seat whose boundaries were drawn in 2010.  Previously this area of England, in the form of the Erewash and Amber Valley constituencies had been a swing area which changed between the two major parties.

Latham was born in Lincolnshire in 1948.  She is married with three grown up children.  She served as a councillor on Derbyshire County Council and Derby City Council.  She was the Mayor of Derby during 2007/08.

Latham supported Brexit in the 2016 EU referendum.  She backed Esther McVey in the early stages of the 2019 Conservative Party leadership election.

She has previously advocated raising the minimum age of marriage from 16 to 18.

Pauline Latham is Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Population, Development, and Reproductive Health. She is Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Global Tuberculosis; Malaria; the United Nations Global Goals for Sustainable Development; War Crimes; Africa; Qatar; Ukraine; and Critical Materials.
