Ellie Reeves is the Labour MP for Lewisham West and Penge, having first been elected to Parliament in 2017. She was re-elected with a majority of 21,543 in 2019.
The seat of Lewisham West and Penge contains the south western part of Lewisham and the area of Penge from the London Borough of Bexley. The seat contains the communities of Sydenham, Anerley, Penge, Clock House, Kent House, and some areas around Crystal Palace. Approximately a third of the population are classified as black or mixed race. The most affluent of the three Lewisham seats, where some two thirds of the electorate supported Remain in the 2016 Brexit referendum, this has now become a very safe Labour seat.
Ellie Reeves currently serves as a shadow justice spokesperson. She served as Shadow Solicitor General between 2020 and 2021.
Liable to the comment that politics is a family business, Ellie Reeves is married to the Labour MP, John Cryer. Her sister, Rachel Reeves MP, is the current Labour Shadow Chancellor.
Born in 1980, Ellie Reeves grew up in this constituency attending Adamsrill Primary School in Sydenham and Cator Park Secondary School (now Harris Bromley) in Penge. She studied Law at Oxford University and then worked as an Employments rights lawyer for over 10 years, before being elected to parliament.
Ellie Reeves served on the Labour Party’s National Executive Committee between 2006 and 2016. She is also vice chair of the London Labour Party. She supported Keir Starmer in the 2020 Labour leadership election.
Ellie Reeves is Co Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Groups on Italy, and a member of the Groups on Miscarriages of Justice; and Loneliness.
