Robin Walker was first elected as the Conservative MP for Worcester in 2010, being reelected in 2019 with a majority of 6,759.
The constituency of Worcester is a compact seat based entirely around the city of Worcester and its city boundaries. For many years the seat was represented by the Conservative Cabinet Minister, Peter Walker, and the father of the current MP. To that extent, Worcester might now be regarded as something of a family seat.
Gained by Labour between 1997 and 2010, Worcester is though one of the UK’s most well known marginal constituencies, home to the typical swing voter who goes under the synonym ‘Worcester Woman’.
Walker was appointed Minister of State for Education in September 2021. He was Minister of State for Northern Ireland between 2019 and 2021, having served as Under Secretary of State for Scotland in 2019. He was Under Secretary of State at the Department for Exiting the European Union between 2016 and 2019.
Born in 1978, Walker grew up in Worcestershire. After gaining a scholarship in Ancient and Modern History from Balliol College, Oxford, he set up his own internet business on leaving university. He then worked as a Partner at the public relations agency, Finsbury Group.
His father was the former Conservative MP for Worcester, and Conservative Cabinet Minister in the 1970s and 1980s, Lord Peter Walker.
Walker supported Remain in the 2016 EU referendum. Like his father, he is located on the left of the Conservative Party. He is is a member of the Tory Reform Group.
He was also a member of a number All-Party Parliamentary Groups, including Regeneration through Innovation, China, and Trade out of Poverty.
He is married with a daughter.
