She was handed a 10-week custodial sentence sentence suspended for two years after threatening her partner’s friend with acid. She was also ordered to complete 200 hours of community service. Webbe has previously indicated that she will appeal the conviction.
Born in 1965, Claudia Webbe studied social science at De Montfort University, Leicester, before taking a Masters’ degree in race and ethnic relations at the University of London.
Webbe previously served as an advisor to Ken Livingstone during his time as the Mayor of London.
An anti racism campaigner, Webb is the first British born Member of Parliament of African descent from the Caribbean Island of Nevis and a daughter of the Windrush generation.
Webbe was elected to Islington Council in 2010.
Webbe was considered to be on the hard left of the Labour Party and was a member of the Socialist campaign group of Labour MPs. A supporter of Jeremy Corbyn, she sat on the Labour’s governing National Executive Committee between 2016 and 2019.
