A DEFRA consultation on relaxing the regulation around gene editing livestock has been accused by critics of being “contentious” and “flawed”.
Under new proposals, gene edited food in England would be permitted without the legal requirement of them being labelled as genetically modified organisms (GMOs).
The environment secretary George Eustice said before the consultation that gene editing could lead to producing healthier food long-term.
